These shawls  were hand crafted by hammering little pieces of metal onto a mesh backing by Egyptian artisans, originating in the town of Asyet. This shawl features a geometric diamond pattern. I've found a few small snags and broken threads in the mesh but nothing major. Interestingly, hidden under the sleeves are white cotton fitted short sleeves with lace trim. This piece can be worn open like a robe or closed like a dress. It has two antler buttons on the front and two functional front pockets. The tops of the shoulders and the back are decorated with leather apple appliques. I've photographed the most obvious flaws I can find, most of them are on the backs of the sleeves but there are some faint small marks on the front and back as well. It closes in the front with two buttons and several hidden covered snaps. It has a hidden button under the collar so it can be worn buttoned all the way up. It is exceptionally well constructed. It has a padded v-shape accent in the back and a hidden pocket on each side.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition: \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis coat is an excellent vintage condition with no major flaws to note. It has no stains, rips or odors. The lining is in very good condition with a few minor scuffs to the silk fabric and a few seams that look like they were restitched. On the exterior of the coat are several places where small amounts of the wool pile was missing that I have replaced with matching wool. It's hard to notice these places, the most notable is on one sleeve cuff. The lace jacket has an open front with flared sleeves. The dress has a net under dress that is attaches at the shoulders and hip. While it doesn't make the dress less sheer, it does help hold the intended shape on the body and help prevent wear to the lace. The dress has no closures and pulls on over the head.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCondition: It's very rare to find antique chantilly Lace in strong, wearable condition but this set is exceptionally well preserved. I found no major flaws on either piece and the lace is strong and wearable. The only flaws I can find are a few tiny breaks in the lace under one arm of the dress and the skirt of the attached slip has some holes and has been opened at the side seams. I debated about removing the skirt part of the slip entirely, because it's not a necessary part of the dress but I will leave that decision to the next owner.
